About Me
Claudia Nicastro-Batty received her BA degree in Education from the University of Rhode Island, her Masters in Special Education from Boston University and completed the Interpreter Training Program at Northeastern University. Claudia has worked in the field of disabilities since 1978 as a teacher of the deaf , American Sign Language Instructor, Sign Language Interpreter, Disabilities Specialist and as a coordinator of special programs for learning disabled students. Claudia joined the DSP staff in 1992 as a Sign Language Interpreter and Disabilities Specialist working with students who have Learning Disabilities, Attention Deficit Disorder, Acquired Brain Injuries and hearing loss. She presently works with students who have Learning Disabilities, who are Deaf and hard-of- hearing. Claudia was nominated for the Margaret Getman award in 2005 for her service to students. In addition to her role as Disabilities Specialist, she is the Coordinator of Deaf Services, a mentor for Juniors, Advisor to Project Eye-to-Eye, (a mentoring program matching LD/ADD students with mentees in area schools), and Chair of the Student Affairs Student Staff Divisional Meeting Committee which recognizes students for their work in the Division of Student Affairs.
You may have seen Claudia on campus with her Border Collies. When not in the office she enjoys spending time with her human and canine family and knitting for various family members and friends.
