Peer Program

Dear Returning DSP Students,

DSP is pleased to announce that we will be reinstating the DSP Peer Program starting fall 2017. The Peer Program has historically offered mentorship and social support to new incoming and transfer students. Types of support has included weekly social activities, study group sessions, and checking-in with students to make sure that they feel supported as they transition to UCSB.

If you believe that you have a good grasp on the bureaucracies of UCSB, have managed to utilize and benefit from your academic support services, and have transitioned into your role as a UCSB Gaucho then we would love to have you on our team as a DSP Peer Mentor.

Peer Mentors will receive a quarterly stipend of $200.00, gain incredible experience helping other disabled students transition to university life, and have fun planning social outings and study groups for their peers. We are looking to hire 3-4 Peer Mentors.

If you are interested in this opportunity please e-mail Jane Castillon your resume and responses to the following questions:

  1. Please describe any mentorship or social support activities that you would be interested in hosting that might be of particular interest to new incoming students;
  2. Please describe those factors and experiences that helped you transition to life as a college student;
  3. Please describe any experience you have in helping students with disabilities such as volunteerism, courses or training, being an RA, summer camps, etc?
  4. Please describe your experience with accessing academic support services including note taking, exam accommodations, etc.

Please note that we would prefer peer mentors to be available during our fall orientation scheduled for 09/26.

Thank you for your interest.

Best,
Jane Castillon
