In 2010, UC Santa Barbara alumni Jack and Kim Johnson generously donated $50,000 to support students with serious medical conditions through the Disabled Students Program (DSP). Their gift, in honor of Danny Riley, a former UCSB student and Kim’s cousin, who passed away from brain cancer in 2007, helps students facing significant health challenges to continue their education. The Danny Riley Fund provides critical support for financial aid, housing, medication, adaptive equipment, transportation, and other special needs, empowering students to pursue their academic goals despite serious medical conditions.

Danny Riley’s courage and determination to live life to the fullest, even while battling cancer, inspired this heartfelt contribution. “Danny didn’t let his illness deter him from his dream of attending UCSB,” said Jack Johnson. “Kim and I created the Danny Riley Fund to support students who face similar challenges and to pass along Danny’s zest for life.” Through this fund, the Johnsons aim to ensure that other students with cancer or serious illnesses receive the resources and support they need to thrive at UCSB.

"Danny said he was always meeting angels at UCSB in the Disabled Students Program office and at the health center. Angels who helped him in every way they could," said his father, Frank Riley.

With your support, we can continue to honor Danny’s legacy and provide life-changing support to students facing serious medical challenges.
