Overview of DSP Services for Academic Departments

This presentation typically covers our mission, an overview of disability (disability as diversity and ableism), the accommodations we provide for students, how to refer students for services, best practices/etiquette, aspects of universal design approaches in the classroom and a Q&A opportunity at the conclusion.

Overview of DSP Department for non-Academic Departments

This presentation typically covers our mission, an overview of disability (disability as diversity and ableism), the accommodations we provide for students, how to refer students for services, and a Q&A opportunity at the conclusion.

Web Accessibility
 

An overview of web accessibility best practices, methods for identifying and fixing common web accessibility issues and assistance with the utilization of SiteImprove software for identifying areas of concern on your department’s website.

Inclusive Course Design

A discussion of best practices for inclusive course design, inclusive attendance and participation requirements, the implementation of alternative assignment options, equity and inclusion considerations for reading material and in-class examples, suggested templates for inclusive syllabus design, and samples of inclusive Accessibility Statements.

Adaptive Technology

A demonstration of assistive technology devices and software applications that may help disabled students more effectively take notes, study, read, and write, as well as technology that instructors may incorporate into their lectures that allow for universal inclusion, thereby eliminating the need for individual accommodations.
